A type of scale (see “Scale, Measurement”) in which the possible response choices are finite and discrete. This may include a set of numbers or closed-ended options (see “Question, Closed-Ended”) that are defined by a limited set of numerical or verbal descriptions, respectively. For example, when asking participants a question about purchase intent, the responses may include “Highly likely to purchase,” “Somewhat likely to purchase,” “Somewhat unlikely to purchase” and “Highly unlikely to purchase.”
