In media and market research, an occasion in which someone or something important is erroneously excluded from consideration when it would ideally have been included. This may involve failure to include individuals in a research project who are actually in the target market, failure to have a control cell for comparison, failure to include an important variable in a statistical model or failure of a participant to provide a complete answer to a question.
