In research, a type of distortion wherein research participants provide answers to questions based on what they believe might be viewed favorably by the people administering the research and/or others. While these answers might be socially desirable, they may not reflect the participant’s true beliefs. This type of bias is more likely to occur in research that is conducted by interviewers.
