Mental shortcuts or rules of thumb that consumers use to simplify decision-making and problem solving. Cognitive heuristics allow consumers to make decisions efficiently and quickly, reducing the amount of time and mental effort needed to make decisions. Cognitive heuristics can be helpful in many situations but can sometimes result in cognitive biases (see “Bias, Cognitive”, “Affect Heuristic” and “Choice Heuristic).”
