Young Pros Spotlight
Danny Gardner
What is your role / current company? Senior Data Analyst, Advanced Analytics & Social Intelligence, GSK
When did you join the ARF Young Pros? 2019
What is your proudest professional accomplishment?
In my previous position, I engineered our agency’s social listening ETL process, crisis monitoring toolbox, and engagement scoring tool. I could not have accomplished these feats without my colleagues and mentors, each of whom I was lucky to have learned from.
What is your biggest professional challenge?
In my current role, I am tasked with building an in-house social intelligence capability for my consumer healthcare business unit. I’m challenged to apply both my MBA and analytics experience to meet evolving business needs and objectives across our newly combined Pfizer/GSK OTC portfolio.
How has being an ARF YP member impacted your career?
Having previously been a member with W2O, I quickly realized how influential the organization was in industry and the value of the Young Pros’ potential to empower the next generation of marketing leaders. The resources and networking opportunities offered by the ARF is incredibly valuable to me as a marketer.
What’s your favorite event that you’ve been to?
It was difficult to attend events in my last position, but now that I’m closer to NYC and our social intelligence lead I look forward to finally meeting and consulting my Young Pros peers!
When researching a topic you know nothing about, how do you get started?
My first instinct is to tap into my professional network or department colleagues for guidance, which I’ve found to be more successful than Googling around trying to teach myself. Don’t get me wrong Google is great and provides answers to a lot of questions, but sometimes it’s better to consult your peers!
What’s an example of a company/brand that you think is doing a great job?
The Home Depot has been one of my favorite companies to follow over the past couple years. They’ve observed incredible success deploying analytics across the enterprise and continue to leverage media-driven insights to reach new audiences. The home improvement market is undergoing a generational shift and will continue to challenge both them and the brands they sell.
What is your favorite restaurant in your city?
I’ve been back and forth between NYC and DC the past few years and don’t really have a favorite. Love Virgil’s in NYC and Old Ebbitt Grill in DC, it’s hard to go wrong with either.
What is your favorite show/program?
I have a lot of favorite shows (from Game of Thrones to Mad Men to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) but my all-time favorite is probably Breaking Bad.
What’s your dream job? (If money was no object, what would you do?)
I would love to be a world traveling food taster and explorer like Anthony Bourdain, Andrew Zimmern, Gordon Ramsey, etc. The cultural significance of food worldwide fascinates me in its ability to unite people.
