A data collection technique in which participants are asked to rank and sort a series of statements or images. Typically, participants are given a set of cards (each with a different word, phrase, description or picture) and asked to sort them according to a question or rule. This approach is used to better understand how consumers group, categorize and rank-order different brands, products, services and other phenomena. Data from a Q-Sort is often useful for perceptual mapping purposes.
