An issue that can arise in media and advertising research in which a research participant’s responses turn out to be different than they would otherwise have been, had he or she been interviewed by a different person. This can be due to the interviewer’s mannerisms, comments or characteristics, including their clothing. Interviewer effects can be deliberate but are usually inadvertent. See also “Interviewer Error.”
